Ceiling Fire at Zion Lutheran School Causes $75K in Damage

The small fire was extinguished, and no one was injured.

Hinsdale, IL - Hinsdale fire companies extingushed a small fire Monday evening in the drop ceiling of a second floor classroom at Zion Lutheran School.

A student who saw smoke and smelled burning wood pulled a fire alarm around 5:32 p.m., calling Hinsdale fire units to the school at 125 S Vine, according to the Hinsdale Fire Department.

Arriving units found people evacuating the building, and fire department members found smoke in a second floor classroom.

Hinsdale fire companies took out several ceiling tiles in the room, revealing a small fire between the drop ceiling and the roof, the fire department reported. The fire was quickly extinguished, and no one was hurt.

Damage was contained to a 4-foot-by-4-foot area of the ceiling, and the damages are estimated at $75,000.

Smoke was ventilated and overhaul was done with the help of fire companies from Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills, Pleasantview, Westmont, Argonne and La Grange.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but appears to be accidental in nature, the fire department reported.
