CLARENDON HILLS, IL — A 5G wireless cell antenna might soon be installed in Clarendon Hills.
The village received an application from Crown Castle on June 24 to install the equipment just north of Ruby Street and Western Avenue. The installation would also include replacing an existing utility pole with a new one.

"This will mean more coverage and capacity for smart technology, reliable cell phone coverage, faster downloads, and better connectivity. We are committed to working with local communities and government leaders throughout this process," the company said in a statement.
Crown Castle owns, operates and leases more than 40,000 cell towers and more than 80,000 miles of fiber optic cables, according to the company’s Twitter account.
Village Manager Kevin Barr said the application was still being reviewed by a consultant to the village. The Village Board does not need to vote on the application’s approval.
