CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills Fire Chief Dave Godek's village vehicle complies with IRS standards, the village said this week.

Patch received an inquiry about why Godek's vehicle, which has no village insignia, is not counted as compensation in the village's annual salary and benefits report.

The IRS requires that take-home company cars be treated as compensation if they have no insignia. The exception is for police officers, who can go undercover.

The compensation report shows that the annual vehicle compensation for the public works director amounts to $7,000. That counts as income for federal income tax purposes.

As for the fire chief's car, the village bought it in May, with decals set to be installed and in place for IRS compliance, Village Manager Zach Creer said in an email to Patch.
