Clarendon Hills Traffic Tie-ups Expected

It's because of a project to add outdoor dining spaces downtown.

Clarendon Hills plans to build outdoor dining spaces next month on Park Avenue, from Eastern to Prospect avenues. Traffic tie-ups are expected during the project.

CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Starting Monday, Park Avenue in Clarendon Hills will experience road closures and one-way traffic for a month, the village announced Friday.

This is the result of a construction project, which will affect Park Avenue from Prospect to Eastern avenues.

The village is building outdoor dining spaces, known as parklets, on Park Avenue to eliminate the need for concrete barriers each summer, the village said in a statement.

The aim is to improve downtown's aesthetics, keep tables next to restaurants and lessen pedestrian traffic through designated dining areas.

The village also plans the construction of new parking stalls east of the outdoor dining areas.

Additionally, the project includes stop signs coming soon to the intersection of Park and Eastern avenues.

In the fall, the village hopes to start the second phase of the parklet project on Railroad Avenue near Thassos Greek Restaurant.
