Demolition of the existing building at the southwest corner of 1st and Garfield streets in downtown Hinsdale is ongoing as of Thursday morning, meaning that first part of the Garfield Crossing construction was not done before the first day of school at nearby Hinsdale Middle School as village officials were told it would be. While a big western portion of the building has been demolished, a large portion of the eastern half is still standing. Thursday was the first day of school at all District 181 schools.

Village officials had been told the demolition phase would be complete before Thursday, when Hinsdale Middle School opened for its first day of school.
