Hinsdale Central Art Students Win Awards at Scholastic Art Competition

Hinsdale, IL - Hinsdale Central High School today congratulated all the art students whose works appeared at the 2016 Scholastic Art competition held last weekend as part of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

This year a total of 2,894 works and 91 portfolios were adjudicated, of which Hinsdale Central art students were awarded two Portfolio Gold Keys, nine Gold Keys, nine Silver Keys, and 13 Honorable Mentions. The artists who win the highest local award, the Gold Key, advance to the national competition held in New York City. National winners will be announced in March.

“Scholastic Art Awards is the longest running, prestigious art contest in the country,” said Hinsdale Central Art Department Chair Laura Milas. “When students are accepted into the show, they are following the footsteps of Andy Warhol, Robert Avedon, Robert Redford, Ken Burns, Kay Walkingstick, and Cy Twombly. Art students at Hinsdale Central have formed a powerfully creative, hardworking and supportive community that has resulted in many wonderful opportunities like the Scholastic Art Awards.”

Downers Grove North High School will host the regional show reception on Sunday, February 7, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibition of the artwork begins Monday, February 8, and will run daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughFriday, February 12, also at Downers Grove North. The exhibition is open to the public.
