The public should expect to see first responders onsite, including the Lifestar medical evacuation helicopter and five ambulances, operating as they would in a real accident and rescue situation. The event will necessitate some temporary road closures and parking restrictions.
The purpose of the mock crash is to encourage the senior class to make good decisions at this celebratory time of prom, post prom and graduation. The mock crash will simulate a drunk driving accident with all the serious consequences that drunk driving can cause. Student actors and staff members will participate in this simulation. The Hinsdale Police Department will secure the area, enforce parking restrictions and road closures as well as participate in the simulated investigation following the mock crash. The Hinsdale Fire Department will assist as simulated first responders as well as coordinate logistics with the Lifestar medical helicopter.
“This is an exciting time of year for high school seniors,” said Hinsdale Police Chief Kevin Simpson. “We want to encourage students to make good choices to keep this special time as the celebratory time it should be. School Resource Officer Tom Lillie has taken the lead in planning this event with SADD, the Hinsdale Fire Department and the Hinsdale Central Administration, the Boosters and Lifestar 1. We all share the same goal of encouraging students to listen to this proactive safety message.”
The SADD mock car crash is an event planned by Hinsdale Central High School, the Hinsdale Central Boosters, the Hinsdale Fire Department, the Hinsdale Police Department and Lifestar 1 Chicago.
In the event of severe weather, the event will be held indoors and the helicopter will be canceled.
