Hinsdale D181 Shedding 'Nomad' Status

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale School District 181 has long rented space for its headquarters, but that is set to come to an end.

On Tuesday, District 181 presented a site plan for its new building at 133 Ogden Ave. to the Village Board.

At a meeting, board members seemed generally supportive after the district addressed some of the Plan Commission's concerns.

The commission rejected the idea of the district painting the brick on the two-story building. That was considered inconsistent with nearby buildings.

Instead, the district now plans to maintain the existing brick.

In summer 2023, the district closed on the Ogden property for about $3 million.

"The district has been renting space for a long time," Mike Duggan, its facilities director, told the Village Board. "They have been nomads at different locations. This is something the district has been working toward for a long while."

The district's 12,000-square-foot central office is at 115 55th St. The new building, which is just outside the district's boundaries, is 13,275 square feet.

Duggan said the new building is appropriately sized for the district's needs. The district doesn't plan many changes.

"Generally, it's staying the way it is," he said. "It's a good, solid building."

A Village Board vote on the plan is expected next month.

The district said it is set to move into the new building next month.
