HINSDALE, IL – The superintendent of Hinsdale High School District 86 announced Thursday that he will undergo surgery and be out of the office for a time.

At a school board meeting, Superintendent Michael Lach, who started last July, said the surgery is planned for Monday.

He said he would be out of commission during spring break, which is next week, and that he probably would work from home the following week.

His time away may be longer, based on his doctor's advice, he said.

"I'm going to be OK," Lach said. "I don't want you to worry about me. The district's going to be fine. We've got great people here."

He advised people to eat their veggies, listen to their doctors and get some exercise.

Board President Catherine Greenspon said she and others looked forward to his return.

"We wish you well, and we promise not to call you all the time," she said. "We know how hard you work, and we know how dedicated you are to our district and our kids. We are deeply appreciative."
