Hinsdale D86 Weighs Handling ICE Agents
The district is looking at how to deal with immigration requests from federal authorities.
HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale High School District 86 is considering enacting a policy dealing with immigration enforcement.
The policy would bar the district from taking any action to deny a free education based on children's or their parents' immigration status.
This update comes in response to an Illinois law that codifies a 1982 Supreme Court decision. The court struck down a Texas law that denied funding for public education of children who are not legally in the United States.

By July, Illinois school districts must set policies on how to deal with requests from law enforcement agencies, including those dealing with immigration.
The school board's policy committee plans to review the proposed policy at 5 p.m. Monday at the district's central office at 5500 S. Grant St. The policy is recommended by the Illinois Association of School Boards.

The federal government recently finished the two-month Operation Midway Blitz, which focused on deporting immigrants illegally in the country. It was led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
