Hinsdale Fire Department Supports National Heart Month
February is National Heart Awareness Month.

Hinsdale, IL - In partnership with the American Heart Association and the Centers for Disease Control, the Hinsdale Fire Department informs residents the month of February is National Heart Awareness Month, which raises attention to the growing epidemic of heart disease.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.

Over the past five years, the Hinsdale Fire Department has responded to over 500 cardiac-related emergency calls within the High cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and secondhand smoke are all risk factors. However, uncontrolled high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke. High blood pressure often shows no signs or symptoms, which is why having your blood pressure checked regularly is important.
The Hinsdale Fire Department urges residents to commit to being heart smart this month. Be especially good to your heart and make a few positive changes for a healthier you:

- Get Your Blood Pressure Checked
The Hinsdale Fire Department, located at 121 Symonds Drive, offers free blood pressure checks during the daytime hours from 9am to 5pm. No appointment is necessary.
- Learn CPR
There are two classes offered by the Hinsdale Fire Department, HearSaver AED and CPR for Healthcare Professionals. February 26th, March 5th and March 26th are the next scheduled classes. - Talk to Your Doctor
Heart disease can often be prevented just by making adjustments to your diet, increasing daily activities and managing your health. It’s always a good idea to speak to your doctor before starting a fitness or diet plan.
