Hinsdale Golfer Sluman Talks Playing with Brian Urlacher

Hinsdale Champions Tour golfer Jeff Sluman was paired with recently retired Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher at last weekend's Encompass Championship in Glenview, where the duo finished 6th out of 10 pro-am pairings.

“Playing with him is obviously a real treat for me,” Sluman told the Doings Hinsdale. “He’s very talented, moves his body well. He’s got his speed and his swing, which is hard to teach.”

“He’s just really starting to learn how to play the game because he’s been playing football his whole life,” Sluman said. “I think with just a little bit of proper teaching ... he’s got a chance to be a very low single-digit handicap.”

Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune that he is definitely retired from football, and is currently focused on improving his golf game.

"[Sluman's] hitting 40 yards behind me and I’m teeing up 40 yards in front of him,’’ Urlacher told the Tribune. "But it’s fun. It’s awesome. You get a chance to watch the guys who are the best in the world do what they do. We all try and play golf. It’s just not as easy as we’d like it to be. And it’s fun to watch these guys make it look easy.’’

Sluman finished in a tie for third at 11 under par, two strokes behind tournament winner Craig Stadler. He won $81K.
