Hinsdale Group Cares For Emaciated Dog Named Betty

The dog was found in a plastic storage container, severely matted and near death, the Hinsdale Humane Society said.

HINSDALE, IL – The Hinsdale Humane Society is caring for a dog named Betty who was discovered near death, the group announced Tuesday.

The dog was found in a Chicago house confined inside a plastic storage container, severely matted and emaciated, according to a news release.

"The police were also notified, and to my knowledge, an investigation is pending," the society's spokesman, Elliott Serrano, said in an email to Patch.

The society called it a "heartbreaking case of animal cruelty."

“Thanks to the quick action of the women who found Betty and the lifesaving care provided by MedVet Chicago, we have a chance to give this brave dog a second chance at a happy life,” Jacki Rossi, the society's executive director, said in the news release. "We are only at the beginning of Betty’s journey back to health, and we know she will need individualized care, continued lab work, special food, and close monitoring for the next few months."

The society has launched a virtual fundraiser called "A Better Life for Betty," which will pay for the dog's extensive medical bills, the news release said.

Residents can help by donating to the account and sharing Betty's story on social media, the society said.
