Hinsdale Police Plan Holiday Weekend Traffic Crackdown

Drinking and seat belt offenses will be on police's radar during the Memorial Day weekend.

The Hinsdale Police Department will join law enforcement agencies nationwide during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday period—Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30—in a crackdown on drunk drivers and unbelted drivers.

In a prepared statement, the department said it will aggressively enforce the seatbelt laws by performing numerous Seat Belt Enforcement Zones through May 30. The enforcement zones will be instituted at random locations in the village, and unbuckled drivers will be issued a citation without warning.

In addition to seatbelt enforcement zones, the police department will assign additional officers to conduct DUI enforcement during this period. Officers are supporting a zero-tolerance practice in removing impaired motorists from the roadway.

The police department has again received a state grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to participate in this enforcement effort. Grant funding allows the police department to assign additional officers for dedicated enforcement to seat belt violations, resulting in much more aggressive enforcement measures for these violations.
