Hinsdale Reminds Residents to 'Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries' This Weekend
It's easy for smoke detector batteries to malfunction, and it's important to make sure they're working correctly.-
Next Sunday isn’t just about changing your clocks in Hinsdale.
The Hinsdale Fire Department is taking an opportunity with Daylight Savings to remind its residents of the importance of changing the batteries in both their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
The fire department recommends changing these batteries before resetting your clocks so you don’t forget about them, the Village stated in a press release.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, someone dies in a home fire around every three hours. The organization also reported last year that 71 percent of smoke detectors that failed to work had missing, disconnected or dead batteries.
The fire department recommends installing smoke alarms in all bedrooms, hallways leading to bedrooms and basements, and having at least one smoke alarm on each level of your home. Alarms should be mounted on walls, between 4 and 12 inches below the ceiling. It’s wise to stay away from installing smoke detectors near windows or vents, the department said.
