HINSDALE, IL – A treehouse-themed playground is set to be built in a Hinsdale park, thanks to a local family's donation.

The Mather Giving Foundation Donor Advised Fund is contributing $200,000 to the village to make the new playground a reality at Robbins Park.

Built in 2002, Robbins' playground is now the village's oldest. It was set to be improved next year.

The foundation is in honor of Stewart Mather, a Hinsdale resident who died of cancer at 42 in 2020.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Trustee Michelle Fisher said the playground would have an adventurous feel, with a treehouse look, rope bridges and a 50-foot zip line.

It will also feature a vine tunnel at the entrance, lined with flowery, colorful vines, giving the playground a "magical feel," she said.

"This design is thoughtful," Fisher said. "This is a meaningful project for the Mather family."

The project is expected to cost $323,000, with the village covering the remainder, she said.

Village President Greg Hart said the village was grateful for the donation.

"This generous gift made in memory of Stewart Mather reflects the family's deep connection to the park and their desire to create a space where new memories can be made," Hart said.
