Money Rolls Into Hinsdale D86 Campaigns

Three candidates get $1,000 donations from a number of sources.

HINSDALE, IL – A number of donors to three campaigns for the Hinsdale High School District 86 board have given at least $1,000.

Such contributions must be reported within a couple of business days in the last month before an election.

The five school board candidates in Tuesday's election are Kay Gallo, Catherine Greenspon, Andrew Catton, Asma Akhras and Deborah Willoughby.

All five candidates have filed information on their campaign funds with the state Board of Elections. That means they expect to raise or spend at least $5,000 in a year's time.

Willoughby and Akhras have not reported any donations of $1,000 or more.

The other three candidates, Gallo, Greenspon and Catton, have received such contributions.

At the beginning of the trio's campaigns, a couple of residents set up a joint fund for them, but it disbanded within days.

Here are the contributions of $1,000 or more filed with the state elections board:

Andrew Catton

  • $2,500 from Robert Bland (no town or occupation listed)
  • $1,500 from PJ Huizenga (no town or occupation listed)

Kay Gallo

  • $1,000 from Richard Morton of Burr Ridge, self-employed
  • $1,101 from Meeta Patel of Hinsdale, a physician and former Hinsdale School District 181 board member
  • $1,000 from Tom Casten of Hinsdale, CEO of Trigen Corp. and father of U.S. Rep. Sean Casten, D-Downers Grove
  • $1,000 from Dan Levinthal of Hinsdale, a physician and husband of District 86 board member Debra Levinthal

Catherine Greenspon

  • $1,000 from Peter Huizenga of Hinsdale, owner of Huizenga Capital Management
  • $1,000 from John Ranum of Homer Glen, retired
  • $2,000 from Ralph Wanger of Chicago, owner of RW Investments
  • $1,500 from Julie Boshardt of Burr Ridge, retired
  • $1,000 from Richard Morton of Burr Ridge, self-employed

Candidates are required to file their complete quarterly reports by mid-April.
