Police Charge 3 Males with Pot Possession

And other items from the Hinsdale Police Blotter through Jan. 17.

DRUG POSSESSION—Police arrested and charged two 18-year-old males and one 17-year-old male for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia at 10:09 p.m. Jan. 14, after observing them in a motor vehicle in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, 935 N. York Rd., Hinsdale.

Arrested were Thomas R. Switala, 18, 9 S. Quincy St., Hinsdale; Anthony M. Rodriguez, 314 The Lane, Hinsdale; and a 17-year-old male juvenile from Clarendon Hills. The juvenile was the driver.

According to police, the three had a green, leafy substance, which police said tested positive for cannabis. The suspects, according to the police report, also had a multicolored glass pipe, which is commonly used to ingest cannabis.

They were all released with a court date.

Residential burglary—A woman reported to police that someone entered her home on the 10 block of East Sixth Street, Hinsdale, sometime between 8:45 and 11:30 a.m. Jan. 12, and stole several pieces of jewelry, including a man's and woman’s Rolex watches and Tiffany sterling silverware. Other items and all values were not identified at the time of the  report. Police said there was no sign of forced entry to the home.

Driving with suspended license—Kevin C. Benfield, 33, 210 E. Walnut, Hinsdale was arrested and charged at 1:11 a.m. Jan. 13, at York Road and Ogden Avenue, for driving while his license is suspended, not having any registration and driving an uninsured vehicle. Police stopped Benfield because the vehicle he was driving did not have any front registration.

Battery—Two men engaged in a fight on the 5700 block of South Madison, Hinsdale. The fight is believed to have occurred at 10 p.m. Jan. 13, but was reported at 12 p.m. Jan. 15. A police report says the fight started when a known suspect made contact, insulted or provoked a male victim. Visible injuries to the victim's face were reported.

Motor vehicle burglary—A Hinsdale man reported that a Magellan GPS and an Exelon camera were taken from his motor vehicle between 8 p.m. Jan. 4 and 8 a.m. Jan. 5, after the vehicle was left unlocked and unoccupied on the 500 block of The Lane. The items were valued at approximately $520.
