The village says it would study the issue and possibly put up stop signs.

HINSDALE, IL – A resident told Hinsdale officials this week that speeds and traffic have increased on Eighth Street in the last few years.

William Bosen, who lives near Eighth and Bruner Street, suggested a stop sign at either Eighth and Bruner or Eighth and Adams Street.

"You regularly see cars going 40, 50 mph," Bosen said at Tuesday's Village Board meeting. "It's become a safety issue."

Village President Tom Cauley said he hadn't spoken to the police chief about the issue, but said Bosen's request made sense to him.

"It's been kind of our view that when in doubt, we put up a stop sign," Cauley said.

Chief Brian King said that before the pandemic, the village found that most drivers stuck fairly close to the speed limit on Eighth.

"The resident indicates that he has seen a change post-COVID," King said. "I think the first step for the police department is to put down some counters. Let's look at the volume and speed. Then we can go from there."
