Status Of Downtown Hinsdale Restaurant Space

The village has received several proposals for the vacant space.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale's village president on Tuesday gave a timeline for getting a new restaurant for the vacant space at the downtown train station.

Longtime restaurant Casa Margarita closed when its lease expired earlier this summer in the village-owned station.

"Several residents have reached out with questions about the train station now that Casa Margarita has closed," Village President Greg Hart said at a Village Board meeting. "I'm happy to report that we've received multiple proposals through the village's (request for proposals) process."

He said the village staff expects to bring a final recommendation to the board in the early fall.

In a later email, Patch asked Hart how long it would be before a new restaurant opened for business.

He said it probably depended on how much interior work the new tenant wanted to do. He said it was safe to assume it could be a few months, but it was hard to say until a bid is selected.

In April, a businessman told the board about his plan for the train station space.

Hinsdale leases out the space, but must consult with BNSF Railway before changing tenants, according to the village.
