Train Blocks Hinsdale, Western Springs Traffic: Official
A train's mechanical breakdown created a barricade for more than three hours, the police chief said.

HINSDALE, IL – Traffic in Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Western Springs and Downers Grove was affected Wednesday night because of a train's mechanical breakdown, an official said.
The breakdown lasted from 4:20 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The train was headed west on the BNSF railroad.

"The stalled train was in the middle track, so the commuter stations were still operating on both sides of the tracks," Police Chief Brian King said in an email to Patch on Friday. "A community service officer was detailed to the crossings."
Traffic could still cross the tracks by accessing the Route 83 and Oak Street bridges, he said.

"The railroad crew was really responsive," King said in an interview. "They got a crew right in."
