2 People Cut From Car, Hospitalized After Tree Struck In Lockport

Lockport Fire officials said that the elderly driver was in cardiac arrest while a woman in the car had to be airlifted to an area hospital.

LOCKPORT, IL — Two people needed to be extricated from a vehicle they were traveling Monday morning after the driver lost control of his car and drove into an area of trees, Lockport fire officials said.

First responders were called to the area of 167th Street and Blackfoot Drive just after 10 a.m. Monday after the vehicle struck the trees, a department spokesman said. Officials did not release the identities of those involved in the accident.

The driver, who officials only characterized as an elderly male, was in cardiac arrest after the accident and was taken by ambulance to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, officials said. A woman who was in the car also needed to be cut out of the vehicle, authorities said. She was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with unknown injuries.

The fire department spokesman did not immediately know the condition of the two occupants. It is not immediately known what caused the crash.
