Berwyn Man Killed, 5 Injured In Head-On Lockport Easter Crash: Police

Xavier Almanza was killed in the crash that happened after police said he crossed the center divider and into the path of an oncoming truck.

LOCKPORT, IL — A 19-year-old man was killed and five people were injured on Sunday afternoon after a car crossed over the center line and into the path of an oncoming pick-up truck head-on in Lockport, police said Monday.

Lockport Police said that Xavier Almanza, Berwyn, was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital after firefighters cut him out of his car following the accident, police said. The crash took place at 3:33 p.m. on Sunday in the area of North State Street and High Road.

Police said Monday that Almanza was driving a Nissan Altima which crossed over the center line divider and into the path of a Chevy Silverado, which had four people inside. All four people were taken to local hospitals for their injuries, police said.

A passenger inside the Altima was also taken to Silver Cross Hospital, where they were treated and released. Police said there is no indication that the driver of the Altima was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation. An autopsy on the driver of the car is scheduled to be completed by the Will County Coroner on Monday, police said.
