Gas Station Manager Punched in the Mouth, Thrown to Ground During Daylight Robbery

The mugger ran off with the moneybag and jumped into a waiting car.

HOMER GLEN, IL — A gas station manager was punched in the mouth and lost his moneybag to a mugger when he left to make a bank run.

The 61-year-old man was beaten and robbed shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday when he exited the Circle K gas station on South Bell Road.

The manager walked about 100 feet to where his car was parked. As he opened the door of the vehicle, “all of a sudden he was punched in the mouth,” police said.

“The manager then felt the moneybag he was carrying being yanked out of his hand,” police said. “There was a brief struggle and the manager was pushed into the side of his vehicle and thrown to the ground.”

The bandit snatched away the moneybag and dashed to a newer model silver Nissan Rogue parked nearby. A second man was waiting behind the wheel of the getaway car. When his partner got into the vehicle they sped away.

The manager suffered cuts and bruises to his mouth. Homer firefighters provided him with medical attention and he refused further treatment.
