Homer Glen Board Appoints Carmen Maurella As New Village Manager

The 26-year resident was offered the job at a special meeting earlier this week and steps into the role after working in the private sector.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Less than a week after its interim village manager resigned after two years, the Homer Glen Village Board has filled the role permanently, officials announced on Wednesday.

Carmen Maurella III, who was elected as the Homer Township assessor last year, was named village manager on Monday after Village Board approved an employment agreement Maurella, the township. announced.

Maurella took over the role immediately, officials said in a news release.

Maurella joins the Village with over 26 years of diverse experience in the private sector and most recently as the business owner of an accounting practice, according to a news release. Maurella has lived in the village for 26 years, which some board members said last week was a major factor in their approval.

Other village officials, including Mayor George Yukich, said they opposed appointing Maurella to the role for what they said is a lack of government experience.

The board decided at a special meeting last week that they would offer the job to Maurella at a special meeting on Monday night. A day later, interim village manager Matt Walsh announced he was resigning effectively immediately, a move that upset some village employees.

The terms of the agreement with Maurella were not disclosed.

"The Village Board and staff are looking forward to working with Mr. Maurella," the village said in a news release on Wednesday. "His background in accounting and finance, familiarity with the area, and multifaceted business endeavors will be a great asset to the Village.
