Homer Glen Primary Election 2022: Should Village Clerk Be Appointed?

Homer Glen voters will decide if the Village Clerk position should be elected or appointed.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Voters from the Village of Homer Glen will vote on a proposition concerning the position of village clerk during the June 28 General Primary election.

The question on the ballot will read:

"Shall the office of the Village Clerk for the Village of Homer Glen be appointed by the Village President, with the advice and consent of the Village Board of Trustees, rather than being elected, to be effective upon the expiration of the term of office held by the current Village Clerk?"

The Village Board approved a resolution submitting the proposition for the ballot in a special board meeting in March.

According to the Village Board documents, "The President and Board of Trustees are committed to ensuring effective and efficient administration of Village government and the responsible management of taxpayer money" and are seeking voter approval to transition the clerk's office "into a professional office that would be accountable for providing the appropriate Village services required by law."

In addition to the Village referendum, residents will also choose their party's candidates for statewide races, including governor, attorney general, Secretary of State, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state senator and state representative.

This year's primary will be held later than usual. Last year, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a bill amending the election code, moving the primary from March to June as lawmakers awaited Census data to redraw Congressional maps.

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 28. June 28 is also the last day to send a mail-in ballot.
