LOCKPORT, IL — The jury trial of a man charged with the 2020 murders of a Lockport woman and her 1-year-old daughter will begin in September, according to Will County court records.
Anthony Maggio, 29, of Crestwood, is facing multiple charges of first-degree murder after the killings of Ashtin Eaton, 32, and Hazel Bryant, age 1, on Oct. 2, 2020. Charges against Maggio were not filed until December 2022, two years after the killings.
Maggio was the father of Bryant, and the ex-boyfriend of Eaton, Patch has reported previously. Maggio has remained in custody since 2022, and has bond set at $10 million.

Lockport Police detectives conducted an exhaustive two-year investigation into the deaths. After processing more 100 pieces of physical evidence and following up on numerous leads, detectives identified Maggio as a suspect in the homicide.
The criminal complaint states that Maggio, on Oct. 2, 2020, intended to kill or do great bodily harm to Ashtin Eaton, and strangled her to death.

In the death of Hazel Bryant, Maggio smothered her to death, also on Oct. 2, 2020, the complaint noted.
Last year, Maggio's lawyer argued that Maggio should be released from jail while waiting for trial, and be allowed to be electronically monitored, stating, "there is no direct evidence linking Maggio to these offenses, and he has no history of violence." However, as of April 29, he remains in custody at the Will County Jail.
A hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, with a jury trial set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, according to court records.
