Lockport PD St. Patrick's Enforcement Yields DUI Arrest, Tickets
The eight-day police campaign was geared at keeping impaired, unlicensed drivers off the road and making highways safer for everyone.
LOCKPORT, IL — A St. Patrick’s week period of enforcement led to one drunk driving arrest and several citations for local drivers as Lockport Police conducted the eight-day project through the end of last week.
In addition to the one driving under the influence arrest, police also issued 20 seatbelt citations and arrested three people for driving with suspended licenses, police said. Officers also handed out four speeding tickets as well as 15 other citations for moving or equipment violations.
“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason – to save lives,” Lockport Police said in a news release on Tuesday. “Encouraging sober driving and seatbelt use improves safety for all.”

The Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over and Click It Or Ticket enforcement programs began on March 11 and ran through March 18. The goal of the initiatives was to keep impaired drivers off the road and to make sure that more drivers are wearing their seatbelts and following traffic laws, police said.
Lockport Police worked together with Illinois State Police and other highway safety partners as part of the campaign. Funding for the enforcement project was provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
