Lockport Police Issued 246 Speeding Citations During July Enforcement

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Police issued 246 speeding citations and apprehended one fugitive during its July traffic safety campaign, the department shared in a news release.
The "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign ran from July 8 to Aug. 1, and encouraged safer driving habits. The campaign was part of a statewide effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Police, aiming to reduce highway fatalities and injuries associated with speeding, according to the department.
During this enforcement period, Lockport Police Department issued: 246 speeding citations, 17 seat belt citations, eight suspended/revoked licenses, six uninsured motorists, 19 other moving/equipment citations, one drug arrest and apprehended one fugitive.

"We continue to urge all drivers traveling through our community to slow down, obey speed limits and drive responsibly," said police. "Every decision you make behind the wheel matters — it's truly not a game."
This campaign aligns with IDOT’s broader "It’s Not a Game" initiative, emphasizing that
dangerous driving behaviors have serious consequences, according to a release. This speed enforcement effort was funded by federal highway safety dollars administered by IDOT.
