Lockport Police Made 1,297 Traffic Stops During Enhanced Enforcement Period
During the STEP enforcement period, officers conducted 1,297 traffic stops, issued 1,353 citations and made 22 arrests, police said.
LOCKPORT, IL — Over the past year, the Lockport Police Department has conducted enhanced traffic enforcement efforts as part of the Federal Fiscal Year 2025 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program. These efforts, conducted between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025, were aimed at reducing traffic crashes and saving lives, Lockport Police said.
During the STEP enforcement period, officers conducted 1,297 traffic stops, issued 1,353 citations and made 22 arrests, police said.

- 663 speeding citations
- 338 occupant restraint citations
- 125 electronic device use citations
- 4 DUI arrests
- 205 other traffic citations
- 18 traffic arrests
- 2 criminal arrests
These efforts were conducted under high-visibility traffic safety campaigns, including “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket,” and “Drive High, Get a DUI," according to police.
“The goal of this enforcement was to make our roads safer for everyone,” said police. “By focusing on the leading causes of crashes – such as speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving and failure to wear seat belts – we aimed to save lives and remind drivers that violating traffic laws will not be tolerated.”

The STEP grant was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of a statewide effort to improve roadway safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities.
