Lockport Township High School Staying Open Tuesday

The Chicago area is under a cold weather advisory from 9 p.m. Monday until noon on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

LOCKPORT, IL — Several area school districts have stated they will remain open on Tuesday as sub-zero wind chills are expected across the area. In Lockport, Lockport Township High School District 205 announced it will be open for in-person learning on Tuesday.

"We've been closely monitoring the weather and coordinating with our feeder school districts. Despite the cold, we believe buses will operate safely," LTHS said.

District 157-C in Frankfort stated it will remain open as well, and Lemont-Bromberek District 113A will also be in-person learning.

Decisions amongst districts in the area seem to be split, as other area schools have announced e-learning days due to the weather. Valley View School District in Bolingbrook and Romeoville Plainfield District 202, Joliet District 86 and Joliet District 204 will all have e-learning days on Tuesday.

"The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 to 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes," the weather service said.
