Lockport Township Teacher Picked As State's Top Driver's Ed Instructor

LOCKPORT, IL — Donald McKillip, a teacher at Lockport Township High School District 205, has been honored as Illinois' top driver's education teacher, the district recently announced.

McKillip has been selected as the 2023 Illinois High School and College Driver Education Association (ISHCDEA) Teacher of the Year. IHSCDEA is a professional teaching organization that was established in 1952, according to a news release.

McKillip was selected from a group of talented Illinois driver education teachers because of his teaching and learning leadership and his ability to teach teenagers to drive, the organization announced. His ability to motivate young drivers to be effective and safe was highlighted in her nomination for the award.

The organization is composed primarily of high school and college driver education instructors, supervisors, coordinators, and safety enthusiasts throughout Illinois. The association has more than 700 members and represents over 600 public high schools in Illinois.

McKillip completed his Master of Science degree in Physical Education in 2008 and his endorsement in Driver Education in 2006, both at Chicago State University. He will receive the award at the IHSCDEA state conference in May in Effingham.
