LTHS Board Farewells Student Board Members, Selects 24-25 Members

LOCKPORT, IL — During its monthly meeting on June 17, the LTHS Board of Education shared their farewell to the student members for the 2023-2024 school year as the students attended their last board meeting, according to a release from the District.

The following four senior students concluded their roles as student board members for the
2023-2024 school year:

• Chelsea Osei and Victoria DalPonte, Student Board of Education member
• McKenna Orrico, Student Board Member on the Board's Curriculum Committee
• Akash Patel, Student Board Member on the Board's Finance and Facilities Committee

“They will always be known as the first, and they set the bar high for the next student board members. The board is very grateful for what they did during this past year,” said Ann Lopez-Caneva, LTHS D205 Board President.

The four student board members thanked the LTHS Board for their opportunity to be involved and shared their final remarks in their last Board Meeting Brief video, the District said.

In addition, the Board welcomed new student board members for the 2024-2025 school year. The Board selected Averi Colella and Mia Fontanetta to serve as Student Board of Education members assigned to sit with the Board during all of its formal, monthly meetings and any special meetings or workshops where and when appropriate.

The LTHS Board also selected Wazeera Shekoni for the role of Student Board Member on the Board's Finance and Facilities Committee and Michael Dierkes for the role of Student Board Member on the Board's Curriculum Committee, the District said.

The student board members for the 2024-2025 school year will officially be sworn in to their roles at the Aug. 19 LTHS Board of Education monthly meeting.
