LTHS Plans Second Annual Short Film Festival

Student directors from the Porter Players formed six groups and wrote, cast, rehearsed and filmed all their pieces.

LOCKPORT, IL — The Porter Players, Club Create, and Video Club have collaborated on The Second Annual Lockport Township High School Short Film Festival, which is planned for Jan. 31, the school said in a release.

Student directors from the Porter Players formed six groups and began writing their own original scripts over the summer and held auditions in September, according to the district. After casting was completed, acting rehearsals and film lessons took place. By October, the groups started filming their pieces. Staff sponsors from The Porter Players, Club Create, and Video Club assisted students from all three clubs while they filmed and edited their pieces. All films were wrapped by the beginning of the second semester.

The teams spent winter break and all of January editing their films in preparation for the Second Annual Lockport Township High School Short Film Festival on Friday.

Other short films created by Porters will be included in this screening, though the original six films that were worked on throughout this season will be submitted to a panel of judges, the school said. One among those six will be selected to represent LTHS at the IHSA Drama and Group Interpretation State Competition, which will take place March 28-29.

The festival is open to the public, and will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday at the LTHS East Campus Auditorium, 1333 E. Seventh St. It is free admission, although cash donations will be accepted at the door.
