
LOCKPORT, IL — George Joseph Mushro Jr., age 80, born in Joliet, on June 6, 1943, and went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Nov. 25, 2023, in Fort Myers, Florida, according to his obituary.
George was raised in Coal City, and lived in Lockport, for many years. A 1961 graduate of Lockport Township High School.
Preceded in death by his parents, George Joseph Mushro Sr. and Vera Ann (Nee Attalla). Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Sharon Mushro (nee May); his cherished children, Jeffrey D. Mushro and Bartholomew J. (Carollyn) Mushro; his stepchildren, Kimberly D. Downs, and Sandy L. Broadway; beloved grandchildren, Jared, Logan, Hayden, Blake, Nicolette, Chandler, Giselle, George, Kiersten, Ashley, Katie, Amber; great-grandchildren, James, Madison, Mason, Mackenzie, and Emberly; siblings, Lois LaBarre, Carol (Kenneth deceased) Almond, Russell (Judy), Miriam (Jim) Abraham, Denise (Pat former spouse deceased) Mushro Rumchak; and many nieces and nephews.

George served on the Lockport Township Government Board for over 35 dedicated years as Trustee and Clerk and was a loyal Independent Farmers Insurance Agent. He was an active member in many civic organizations in Lockport Township, and an active member of the Democratic Party. He served as the Chairman of the Will County Democratic Central Committee and served on the Lockport Township Democratic Organization board / precinct committeemen, and treasurer.
Lifelong member of the Moose, was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, in Fort Myers, Florida. George was a passionate, adoring, and caring husband, a mentor to his children and grandchildren, making memories that will last a lifetime. He will be remembered as a generous soul to those in need, never failing to help others. A true loving, kind, compassionate friend to all, and an exceptional, special, supporting brother to his siblings.

He was an avid golfer who loved his Florida home and spending time with his Florida family. George spoke softly, loved unconditionally, and will always Be “THE BEST."
In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of donor’s choice in George’s name would be greatly appreciated.
Prayers will be held on Dec. 6, 2023, in the O’Neil Funeral Home Chapel, 1105 E. Ninth St., Lockport, at 9:15 a.m. proceeding to St. Dennis Church, Lockport, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Following Mass, Cremation Rites will be respectfully addressed.
Visitation Dec. 5, in the funeral home chapel from 3 to 8 p.m.
