LOCKPORT, IL — A mental health crisis that unfolded on the 9th Street bridge in Lockport Monday afternoon came to a safe resolution, Lockport police said.

Lockport police were on the scene of a man threatening to jump from the bridge, Lockport Police Chief Richard Harang said. Police initially issued an alert just before 3:30 p.m. The bridge was closed while local and Illinois State Police communicated with the man, Harang said.

A crisis negotiator spoke with the man for approximately an hour, Harang said, reaching a successful resolution. The man was safe and taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, Harang said.
