2 Shot In Lockport Township 'Targeted Attack': Sheriff

The first victim, age 65, was shot in the head; the second victim, a woman, age 40, was shot in the foot.

LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP, IL — Two people were shot on Saturday night in Lockport Township, and one victim remains in critical condition, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Police said a 911 call about a shooting was reported at 11:20 p.m. Aug. 3 in the 200 block of Nobes Avenue. Deputies arrived, and found two people on the road who had been shot.

The first victim, a 65-year-old man, was shot in the head; and the second victim, a woman, age 40, was shot in the foot.

Police began performing life-saving measures until the Lockport Township Fire Protection District were able to take over, the sheriff's office said. Both victims were taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. The man was airlifted to another hospital in critical condition. The woman is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators came to the scene to begin the investigation into the shooting of these two individuals, the sheriff's office said. A neighborhood canvass was conducted by police personnel, who learned that the gunfire came from an unknown vehicle that fled the area.

Witnesses told police that the unknown vehicle was driving east on Nobes Avenue when the shooting occurred, and the car continued east on Nobes Avenue at a high rate of speed. Witnesses lost sight of the vehicle as the vehicle drove past Green Garden Place in the Fairmont area of Lockport Township.

Detectives have been unable to determine a motive in the incident, but the shooting appears to be a targeted attack, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives have conducted numerous interviews about the shooting, and "have received no cooperation from the possible intended targets of this shooting where this incident occurred," police said.

No one is in custody for the incident, police said.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, members of the Will County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons And Tactics team conducted a search warrant on a residence in the 200 block of Nobes Avenue that is related to this shooting, according to police.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in this investigation in locating and providing surveillance video of the incident or of the vehicle fleeing the area.
