HOMER GLEN, IL — The Village of Homer Glen said Tuesday in a message to residents that it does not condone Homer Township Supervisor Steve Balich's decision to fly the American flag upside-down in protest of former President Donald J. Trump's conviction.

On May 31, Balich flew the flag upside-down outside the Homer Township building.

In a post on Patch, Balich said the country "is in peril, and we, my friends, are at a crossroads."

"Although the Village of Homer Glen and Homer Township are two very separate government entities, this is not always understood," the Village's message said. "Both entities do represent the citizens, and the actions have angered and disrespected not only those who have proudly served our country, but also those critical of the use of a government property to push their own political agenda."
