Falls are the leading cause of serious injury for older adults. Sadly, fear of falling may be keeping seniors from doing the things they love.

That’s why Victorian Village Senior Community has partnered with VirtuSense® technology and Symbria’s Well-Being™ Program to offer an effective method for detecting and addressing resident’s risk for future falls. Both VirtuSense and Well-Being are amenities provided for all our community members at no extra cost.

The VirtuSense system uses 3D motion analysis and biofeedback to identify any deficits in a person’s balance, gait, and function. This easy-to-use assessment takes less than three minutes and can detect underlying musculoskeletal and sensory issues that can lead to falls. Victorian Village residents can contact their Well-Being office to schedule an assessment and screening.

Once the screening is completed, the healthcare team will use the data collected to design an exercise program specific for each resident. In other circumstances, they may suggest that a person’s doctor view the results and prescribe a therapy regimen to help improve any deficits. These targeted strengthening programs can include working with a Well-Being trainer in the Victorian Village Fitness Center, as well as guided exercises a person can do in the comfort of his or her own apartment. All community members can track progress and share results with their doctors.
