FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Flossmoor Station Restaurant and Brewery will begin selling a new brew in honor of International Women's Day, a spokeswoman for the company told Patch.

Tuesday, March 8, the brewmaster at the Flossmoor-based brewery joined the Pink Boots Society to help brew a batch of hazy, IPA along with 500 other breweries across the country.

The Pink Boots Society aims to raise awareness and garner support for women in beer professions, a cause near and dear to Station Brewery's owner and founder Carolyn Armstrong.

Armstrong told Patch she founded the brewery almost 26 years ago, becoming among the first group of women to break through the male-dominated field.

“People traditionally think of craft beer as something that is of more interest to men,” she said in a press release. “But we have a strong contingency of female employees, patrons and other women in the community who enjoy and support the craft beer business."

Flossmoor Station brewmaster Ryan Czaja is brewing a New England-style IPA in collaboration with Pink Boots Society called "Southern Belle." Armstrong said the brew is named to honor her Texas roots. Beginning next week, patrons will see employees at the brewery wearing pink "Team Belle Hops" shirts to raise awareness.

Those interested in trying the Southern Belle brew can do so next week once the beer is tapped. For each purchase of Southern Belle, Flossmoor Station will donate $1 per pint to the Chicago branch of Pink Boots Society. A spokeswoman for the society told Patch funds will go towards scholarships and advancement opportunities for women in the beer industry.

"We encourage everyone to join us for a pint or two at the Station to support a good cause — amazing women involved in the noble profession of brewing great craft beer," Armstrong said.
