Flossmoor Set To Sparkle In Tree Lighting, Holiday Season Kickoff

The holiday season starts Nov. 25 in Flossmoor. Hot chocolate, photo ops, tree lighting, carolers and more are in store.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The holiday season is set to kick off in Flossmoor on Saturday, Nov. 25, with Small Business Saturday throughout the Village’s shopping districts and a "Celebrate the Season" event in downtown Flossmoor.

Area businesses will open early and will close late that day on one of the busiest shopping days of the season. Shoppers can look for specials and great deals all day long for shopping and dining in Flossmoor’s downtown retail area, as well as at Flossmoor Commons (located at Vollmer Road and Governors Highway).

"Combining the magic of the holiday season with Small Business Saturday creates the perfect opportunity to embrace cherished traditions and light up the season with unique gifts from your favorite Flossmoor businesses," said Stephanie Wright, Flossmoor’s Community Relations Manager.

In downtown Flossmoor, the Village will offer free activities that day for all ages, in collaboration with the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and the Flossmoor Public Library. The fun will start at 3 p.m. when Santa arrives for photos, hot chocolate — provided by Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Vocational Achievement for Successful Transition program — and treats on the lawn of the library, located at 1000 Sterling Ave. A second photo op spot will be located in nearby Flossmoor Park with a vintage truck and decorations. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will offer free kids’ crafts inside the Park Place building from 3 to 5 p.m. Na Aikane ‘Ukulele will bring music and cheer at 4 p.m., then at 5 p.m. members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Choir will lead a parade of carolers to Flossmoor Park for the annual holiday tree lighting with Santa and Mayor Michelle Nelson. At 5:30 p.m. the switch will be flipped to officially light up the season.

New features this year include a luminary display and sale from the Flossmoor Service League and a donation drive for the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Manteno by the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission.
