UPDATE: Homewood Holds Special Meeting On Country Club Thursday

UPDATE: Homewood's meeting about buying the Calumet Country Club property is a closed session. Public input is welcome, but limited.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood is holding a public meeting Thursday night to discuss purchasing the Calumet Country Club golf course. An Arizona developer has indicated he wants to annex the property into neighboring Hazel Crest and replace with a 1-million-square-foot industrial park. Members of the public will be invited to speak at this meeting. Afterward, the board of trustees will meet in a closed executive session to discuss whether to purchase the 130 acres.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the village hall at 2020 Chestnut Road.

UPDATE: Spokeswoman Jennifer Quirke said that there was a little confusion about the notice of the meeting. Public input is welcome as a normal part of executive session meetings, and residents may address the board with brief comments. To meet in executive session, the board must post a public notice and offer room for comments. However, no new information will be presented and no larger discussion about the issues will be held. The board will meet in a closed session and will not come back with announcements, she said. A much larger public forum in which residents will have ample time to speak will be scheduled in coming weeks, she said.
