IJP School Mourns 'Bright Light', Teacher Who Loved 'Her Babies'

Infant Jesus of Prague School is honoring the memory of a kindergarten teacher at the school after her death last week.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — A school community is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Infant Jesus of Prague School paid tribute Wednesday to Michelle Wilburn, teacher at the school since 2021. Wilburn, 57, died Oct. 1, a school representative said.

"We are deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden and unexpected passing of a much loved member of our IJP family last week," the school said on social media.

Wilburn "was a devoted Kindergarten teacher" serving at IJP, in Chicago Public Schools, and at Christ Our Savior over the course of her dedicated career, the school said.

"She has been a teacher at IJP since 2021, caring deeply about the success and wellbeing of all of her students, especially her Kindergarten 'babies," the school wrote.

"Our beloved Ms. Wilburn has gone home to be with the Lord," wrote Principal Felicia Clotworthy in a note to school families. "She not only loved her students, but also cherished being a member of the IJP community. "

The school extended its thoughts and condolences to the Wilburn family, especially her daughter and sister, her colleagues.
