Man, 79, Dies After Struck By Car: Hazel Crest Police
The accident happened Monday evening at 174th and Kedzie Avenue, Hazel Crest police said.
HAZEL CREST, IL — A 79-year-old Hazel Crest man died Monday night after being struck by a car, police said Tuesday.
Hazel Crest police were called to 174th and Kedzie Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Monday for a report of a collision. They found a man on scene suffering from injuries.
A witness told police that the man had been struck by a vehicle northbound on Kedzie from 175th Street, according to a press release. The driver of the vehicle stopped and rendered aid.

The man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Eddie Smith, 79, of Hazel Crest, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.

The driver has of the vehicle that struck Smith has not been taken into custody or charged with any crime, police said.
