Racial Slurs Found In Graffiti At Flossmoor Metra Station, Park: Police
The graffiti was reported early Friday morning, police said. Police are looking for any information on those responsible.
FLOSSMOOR, IL — Flossmoor police are investigating after racial slurs were found spray-painted in two locations early Friday, according to an e-cop alert.
Just before 5:30 a.m. Firday, the Flossmoor Police Department responded to a report of graffiti found at the Flossmoor Metra Station (Sterling Avenue and Flossmoor Road). Police there found a racial slur painted on a wall near the station’s pedestrian entrance. Then at 7:42 a.m. this morning, police were dispatched to Flossmoor’s Levitt Park (1101 Leavitt Ave.), where additional racial and discriminatory graffiti was discovered on a sculpture installation within the park. All graffiti has been removed by Flossmoor Public Works staff.
“The Village of Flossmoor prides itself on being a welcoming, diverse and inclusive community; sadly, even we are not immune to hateful incidents such as these,” said Mayor Michelle Nelson. “I want to thank our police and public works staff for responding swiftly today, and want to assure our residents that the Village takes these incidents seriously.”
