Raising Alzheimer's awareness

research for finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease

In June, advocates from the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter participated with over 1,000 other nationwide advocates for the AIM Advocacy Forum in Washington, D. C. They spoke to members of Congress, including my Representative Robin Kelly, about the importance of continuing funding for the vital research needed to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Even though I was not on Capitol Hill, I advocate in my home district and work with my Congresswoman throughout the year to make sure Alzheimer's remains a top priority. As a former caregiver for my father and co-facilitator of a caregiver support group, I understand the devastating effects of this disease on the whole family.

Alzheimer's and other dementias can affect anyone. Thankfully, Congress knows this fight is bi-partisan. Our leaders have played an important role in accelerating the way our nation addresses this disease, but we can not stop our progress now. That is why I am asking Congresswoman Kelly to support a $113.485 million increase in research funding at the National Institute of Health (NIH) for FY 2026.

With over 7 million Americans with Alzheimer's and 12 million caregivers, pleases join me is asking Congress to continue funding a cure and one day, celebrate our first survivor of Alzheimer's. Thank your gracious support. To learn more about this noble fight, please visit alzimpact.org.
