Runners Take To Flossmoor Streets For Hidden Gem Half-Marathon

The race takes place Saturday, Sept. 6 on roads throughout Flossmoor neighborhoods.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Hidden Gem Half Marathon will host its 6th 13.1-mile race on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Flossmoor.

More than 1,200 runners will embark on a road race throughout the Village that morning. The race kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on Flossmoor Road in front of IJP School and will end along Sterling Avenue near the Flossmoor Public Library. Following the race, spectators, volunteers and runners are invited to celebrate together with Kegs & Eggs, a celebratory Village event from approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Event goers can visit a variety of community tables to connect and pick up free giveaways, including a tree sapling from the Flossmoor Green Commission. The event will also feature breakfast and lunch items from vendors, specialty beverages—including the exclusive Hidden Gem brew made by the Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery—and music spun by local DJ Matt Kuhnen.

Please note changes to regular routines in Flossmoor this week due to the events:

  • Free brush collection is being moved back one week. Expect collection Sept. 8-12.
  • The "no overnight parking" ban will be waived Friday, Sept. 5, allowing residents in a race area to leave a car outside of the race zone for easy access on Saturday morning.

Expect a series of rolling road closures that morning (Sept. 6). There will be a period of “soft” closures then “hard” closures when runners enter each neighborhood. Hard closures will vary by neighborhood and are unlikely to last longer than one hour in most areas. The downtown area and parts of Flossmoor Road will be closed at 5 a.m.
