Small Business Saturday Kicks Off Holiday Season In Downtown Flossmoor

Specials in shopping and dining all day in Flossmoor's downtown retail area and Flossmoor Commons on Saturday, Nov. 29.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The holiday season kicks off in the Village of Flossmoor on Saturday, Nov. 29, with Small Business Saturday throughout the Village’s shopping districts and in downtown Flossmoor. Shoppers can look for specials and great deals all day long for shopping and dining in Flossmoor’s downtown retail area, as well as at Flossmoor Commons (located at Vollmer Road and Governors Highway).

In the downtown Flossmoor area (Sterling Avenue and Flossmoor Road), the Village will host a grand reopening ribbon-cutting ceremony of the downtown district at 2 p.m. that day. The grand reopening follows a months-long Downtown Streetscape Project, which refreshed the area with improved safety features and beautification enhancements. The downtown will look festive with luminaries displayed by the Flossmoor Service League (donations accepted at www.flossmoorserviceleague.org).

The Village will also offer free activities that afternoon for all ages in Flossmoor Park, located at Brassie Avenue and Flossmoor Road. The fun will start at 3 p.m. when Santa arrives (with a lift from the Flossmoor Fire Department) for photos and visits with kids. Hot chocolate and s’mores will be served as a fundraiser by the Flossmoor Firebirds, one of the Village’s travel baseball teams, and there will be a firepit to enjoy them by. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will offer free holiday kids’ crafts inside the Park Place building from 3–5 p.m. At 5 p.m., members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Choir will lead the community in carols as everyone waits for Mayor Michelle Nelson to light the community holiday tree with help from Santa at 5:30 p.m.
