COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL — Parents are calling for the resignation of a south suburban superintendent after a substitute teacher attacked a student last week, injuring multiple children in the process, according to reports.

The incident happened Thursday at Meadowview Intermediate School in Country Club Hills, after a student made a comment that upset the teacher, who then chased, choked and hit the child in a fourth-grade classroom, reports said.

Another student was injured, pinned by furniture knocked over in the altercation, according to NBC Chicago, while WGN reported a girl required X-rays after a desk fell on her foot.

District 160 Superintendent Duane Meighan in a message to parents Friday acknowledged that an incident occurred and the involved staffer would not return to the school, but Meighan contended that descriptions of the event on social media were not accurate, according to WGN, which reported a police report was filed.

Parents at a school board meeting Tuesday sought answers and pushed for Meighan to resign, NBC Chicago reported.
