McHenry Township Fire Protection District Partners with BoatUS Foundation

McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) is working to help keep kids safe while on the water by offering loaner life jackets to the public for the day or weekend, at no charge! MTFPD is happy to announce its partnership with the BoatUS Foundation as participants in the Life Jacket Loaner Program.

Here’s how the Life Jacket Loaner Program works.  If a boater discovers they don’t have enough properly-fitting children’s life jackets on board, they can visit Station 1 (3610 West Elm Street (the corner of Highway 120 and Route 31)) and meet with an MTFPD member to assist the child with a properly fitted life jacket.  When they’ve finished boating for the day, they can return the life jackets to the same location.

“Statistics show that in many water craft incidents involving children, they were not wearing a life jacket.  We are proud to be part of this innovative program to help protect children while they are enjoying the many waterways in our fire district” said Chief Rudy Horist.

If you have questions regarding the Life Jacket Loaner Program, please contact Linda Willetts at 815-669-5379.
